Lord Ed Vaizey becomes ACU Honorary President

The Auto-Cycle Union (ACU) is delighted to welcome Lord Ed Vaizey as its new Honorary President.

As the governing body for British motorcycle sport, the ACU actively engages with central government on a wide range of issues that affect our sport.

While much of this work takes place outside of the public domain, it is nevertheless vitally important for our views to be politically represented in our ongoing effort to protect the long-term future of British motorcycle sport.

As ACU members will know, the Board of Directors is working to modernise and strengthen the organisation in various ways. We are therefore delighted to confirm that Lord Vaizey, the former Minister in the Departments for Culture, Media and Sport, is taking up the post of ACU Honorary President.

He will work in an advisory capacity to the ACU Board, providing political expertise and insight from his various roles in government.

ACU President, Tim Lightfoot, said: "Having someone of Lord Vaizey’s political stature advising the ACU is a major step in our commitment to support and develop British motorcycle sport.

"As a national sporting body, it is essential for the ACU to have the best possible representation politically, so we are delighted that Lord Vaizey has placed his trust and confidence in our efforts and very much look forward to working with him."

Lord Vaizey said: "For more than 120 years, the Auto-Cycle Union has played a leading role in motorcycle sport, both in the UK and internationally.  I am very much looking forward to assisting the ACU’s efforts to protect and develop the sport for future generations to enjoy."
