In light of an increase in negative and abusive posting on social media in recent weeks, the ACU would like to reiterate how important it is that people from within the motorcycle sport community act respectfully and responsibly when airing their views online.
Dialogue on social media is largely constructive and positive – something we welcome. But when posting becomes deliberately negative, critical and in some cases personal, these actions must be called out.
It’s important to remember that organisers and officials always strive to do their best for the sport we all love. Yes, mistakes can sometimes be made. But it’s unfair to seize on these moments and use them as an opportunity to post abusive comments.
If the current trend continues, we run the risk of losing experienced volunteer officials, important commercial revenues from sponsors, and ultimately, events from our sporting calendar.
Therefore, the ACU’s advice is that if anyone has any specific concerns relating to an event, they should address the relevant organiser or official directly – either in person or via e-mail.
Finally, it should also be noted that under the National Sporting Code of the ACU, action can and will be taken against anyone that posts on social media in a way that brings our sport into disrepute.
Yours faithfully,
The ACU Board.
