Following the recent announcement about changes to the format and structure of the British Motocross Championship, the ACU is pleased to confirm the addition of new youth and adult support classes for the 2025 season.
The series, which is returning to being run in-house from next season, will feature youth, clubman and amateur classes. Competitors will race across a two-day format and the new classes will serve as feeder series into the main British MXGB Championship.
In an exciting first for the governing body of motorcycle sport in the UK, organisers will also be running a British Women’s Motocross Championship class in the series from 2025.
Plans are also being finalised to introduce a new qualifying system through ACU club events next year that will seed youth riders into the 2026 series.
Organising the new British Motocross Championship classes will be Colin and Julie Hambridge, and Christine Heathcote who are well known and highly-respected figures within the sporting community. As Race Director, Colin (pictured) will work closely with new ACU British Motocross Championship Series Director, Paul Irwin.
Matthew Edwards-Wear, ACU Secretary General, said: “In planning this new championship, the ACU wants to make the British series as accessible as possible and create a system where talented riders can develop and progress through the youth and amateur classes while racing for British Championship titles.
“In doing so, we aim to increase participation at all levels and directly address the issue of low entries that are affecting many motocross events.
“For the very best riders, a potential career as a professional, elite motocross athlete awaits. Racing in FIME and FIM Championship competition is an opportunity that only the ACU – as the governing body of UK motorcycle sport and founding member of the FIM – can offer.”
Further details about the 2025 MXGB series will be announced in the coming weeks.
