The ACU OSET Sponsored Youth Trials Championship started well at the weekend with well organised rounds 1 & 2 by one of the UK’s oldest trials Clubs, the Surrey Schoolboys Trials Club. This was run at the popular Hookwood Trials Centre located at the top of the Surrey Hills.
The club officials had many challenges to overcome which they did with a smile on there face. The course was set out in dry conditions and Friday evening looked superb, well-marked out with new flags and tape. Five routes in all. What could go wrong: The Challenge came with six hours of heavy overnight Rain. There were Streams running through the wood, now it was hard to stand and walk, let alone many small tots ride a bike through it.
As always in motorcycle trials you just get on with it, no matter what! Full credit for all competitors, officials, and Observers for doing just that.
Scotland’s and Sherco rider Euan Sim was in brilliant form in the Senior Youth A class showing everyone how to ride the rocks and big tree obstacles, so familiar of Hookwood. Euan won both days with 69 lost on day one, followed by 50 on the Sunday. Harry Cripps from the Darwen Club had a 3rd and 2nd, so now lays 2nd in the class. Thomas Le Bretton Hookwood Club but from the Channel Islands now holds 3rd place overall.
The B Class was dominated by the excellent riding of Max Dance Gas Gas, who won day one on 56. Thomas Packham Gas Gas had his first ever youth podium in 2nd place on 74 followed by Archie Bremner on 85. These three riders filled the podium of on day two, with Dance losing a measly 13
Day one C Class. Mason Tidd took the win on 70 followed by Cameron Batty Sedbergh Club on 74 with Joshua Tate Scarborough 95. Day two: Sam LeFevre bounced back with a stunning win on just 34 with Cameron Batty 42 and Mason Tidd on 46.
The D class was won overall by Joseph Larkin Guisborough Club with a win both days, followed by Tommy Wakeford, Rueben Keet and Dexter Rowden.
A little Star from Scotland emerged in Hookwood: Alisdair Pollock winning both days of the D small wheel on his Oset. High scores but plenty of cleans. Alisdair is a strong tough lad and very determined. Look out adults in 10 years. SSDT winner?
The youth entries are up this year despite a few small rule changes, nearly 80 riders is a healthy line-up. Well done Surrey Schoolboy Trials Club and all competitors, families and supporters, ACU representatives.
