Frank Melling will be at the Classic Dirt Bike Show this weekend – 10th and 11th February – with his new book “Scrambling For Enthusiastic Beginners”.
In “Scrambling For Enthusiastic Beginners” Frank tells the real story of bikes and racing in the 1960s through the eyes of a clubman racer starting right at the bottom – often buried in mud with a bike on top of him!
But Frank made progress very quickly as a journalist and racer - and was BSA’s last works rider. He was there the day the famous factory closed.
He also knew, and worked with, many of the great icons of the British bike industry.
Triumph’s Doug Hele, Alan Clews at CCM and the legendary Eric Cheney – Frank was on first name terms with them all.
He also, famously, had a stand up argument with Lionel Jofeh, BSA’s Managing Director.
“Scrambling” is a hilarious, true story of this mad time, told authentically by someone who was at the centre of the action.
