The ACU 250 National championship was all but decided on arrival with Bobby Varey only needing to score 3 points to secure the title.
That a was until the weather intervened, storm Betty swept in and day ones qualifying and racing was cancelled with winds of 50 to 60 mph gusting in from the sea.
That put the very slim mathematical chance of Nick Sansome to bed with the loss of the extra points needed.
No qualifying saw the grids for Sunday's races line up in championship positions, Bobby Varey, Nick Sansome and Tommy Lawlor the front row.
From the start Varey moved quickly to the lead and started to lap up to 3 seconds a lap quicker than the following pack, Tommy Lawlor with Sean Morrison and Ian Mackman, Nick Sansome off the pace in 5th
Morrison disappeared from the lap chart on lap one, Mackman was tracking down Lawlor with Paul Metcalf moving up as well, getting the better of Sansome too.
Varey just kept up the pace and won with a 11 second gap over Lawlor, Mackman held third from a charging Metcalf who was the first of the Cup runners, Mark Tyrrell was the leading 125.
Race 2 saw the champion Varey on pole and lead away again but Mackman was right with him this time and matching him on lap times Metcalf was third with Sansome running better but only forth, Tyrrell again the top 125.
The last couple of laps Mackman dropped off the pace of the leader and Varey squeezed out a 3.5 second gap at the flag Metcalf 3rd and the lead cup bike home, Tyrrell the 125 victor again.
The 250 championship was Varey’s at the start of the day, the minor places have still to be decided with only 23 points between Sansome and Lawlor, Mark Tyrrell cannot be caught in the 125’s , but the NG Cup will come down to the wire with Seath leading just by 7 points from Phil Ellis and Sean Morrison still with a chance.
