Belle Vue and Great Britain star Dan Bewley pulled off a dramatic victory in Saturday’s FIM Swedish Grand Prix at Malilla.
Bewley took advantage of a re-start in the Final after Fredrik Lindgren had collided with Martin Vaculik, bringing both riders down heavily – and with Lindgren excluded, Bewley snatched the win from Vaculik by moving inside him at the end of lap three.
It was a third GP win from three Finals for the Aces No.1, following up his triumphs in Cardiff and Wroclaw last season, and it moves him up to fifth place in the World Championship standings, level on points with Vaculik.
The victory was all the more remarkable as Bewley had suffered a spectacular crash at Wolverhampton on Monday, and admitted he felt the effects through the week.
Bewley said: “It’s crazy to be here, there’s something special about this win. It’s been a rough week but what an end to it!
“We had a tough night, we were working hard and we were struggling to be honest. We just threw some things in the dark, I don’t think you get lucky but you’ve got to change some things sometimes.
“We changed suit, changed goggles, changed all kinds and here we are, it’s unbelievable where we’re at right now.
“I didn’t know if I was going to ride these past few days, after Monday and Tuesday I was struggling badly, and at Ipswich I didn’t know what was going on, I thought I’d forgotten how to ride!
“It’s been a roller-coaster week but a huge thanks to the boys in the pits, the mechanics, all my sponsors, everyone back at home and my clubs and all the supporters there. It’s been awesome this year.”
