Gazzane di Preseglie in Italy marks the final round of the European Women’s Motocross Championships this weekend, where 15-Year-old Lucy Barker from Yorkshire will be looking to clinch the European Women’s 125cc Motocross Championship. Lucy will arrive at the final round as the Championship leader and currently holds a 37 points advantage.
The 2023 season saw Lucy move onto the 125cc machine after contesting the Big Wheel 85cc class in the UK and is her first time of racing in the European championships.
Heading into the first round in Denmark Lucy was unsure what to expect but after qualifying in second, Lucy lined up for the qualifying race on the Saturday where she took victory even after a small crash early in the race. After a positive start to her European experience, Lucy was looking forward to the Sunday and went onto take two races wins and the overall victory in the 125cc class and lead the Championship after the opening round.
Two weeks later the championship moved to Germany for the second round at Prisanawicz. Arriving as the Championship leader Lucy was keen to produce two solid races and after a tough Qualifying race on the Saturday where she crashed in the first turn. On the Sunday Lucy managed two good starts and went on to take another pair of race wins and the overall victory, to extend her points lead. Lucy’s strong finishes in the combine races with the 250cc riders also saw her make it onto the Overall podium for the event.
Next was a trip to Poland where Lucy’s fine form continued as she took victory in both the races in the 125cc class, along with 3rd position in the first race overall and a 4th in the second race overall which saw her claim 3rd overall in the event.
Lithuania marked the fourth round of the championship where Lucy suffered her only race defeat of the season so far, but with a 1 -2 scorecard still claimed the overall. The following weekend Lucy went to Slovakia where she claimed another double race wins leading her into this weekend’s title deciding weekend.
The ACU wish Lucy and her family all the best with this weekend’s final round in Italy and hope that she can secure the title.
