It is with sadness we announce the passing of Victor (Vic) Madeley, a life-long motorcyclist starting in trials and later in grass tracks before becoming involved in enduros both as a competitor and organiser.
As a competitor, he was Mid Wales Centre Trials Champion and was a regular in the 1960’s and 70s on the Welsh and Midlands grass scene. Discovering enduros, he was a regular competitor in the Welsh Two Days and rode in the 1971 ISDT in the Isle of Man. Such was his dedication to the motorcycling that he got married at 10 o’clock in the morning so he could compete at a grass meeting that evening. After his parents retired from farming, Vic ran a successful motorcycle repairs and sales business from his Kerry home.
With the growth of the fledging sport of enduros in the 70’s Vic was a founding member of the Mid Wales Trail Riders Association and was the backbone of the club organising the Powys Enduro (which he was the first winner of), the Nant yr Hwch and the Dyfi enduros and countless hare n hounds and trials events. He was a mainstay of the board of the Mid Wales Centre ACU holding numerous positions, being past president. He was the instigator of computerised timing of enduro events, timing events the length and breadth of the country. Vic and his band of helpers played a big part in the organisation of the 1983 ISDE providing two days of route.
A real character who did so much for motorcycling, encouraging the sport and sponsoring many young riders. Our sympathy goes to daughter Karen and partner Scott.
