The Auto-Cycle Union is deeply saddened to announce that Tony Hunt passed away on Sunday 28th August.
When Tony first became interested in motorcycles he joined the Stroud Motorcycle Club and was involved in running the Cotswold Scramble and the Cotswold Cup Trial when these were British Championship events.
Tony was a Western Centre Steward and National Moto Cross Steward and became involved with the technical side of things with the late Ron Carter initially on sound control. He joined the MX technical team in the 1990’s and officiated at Hawkstone Park, Foxhills, Mallory Park and more recently at Matterley Basin.
He eventually he became an FIM Senior Technical Steward and took control of World Championship Trial events at Carlisle, Fort William and Bradford
For the last 12/15 years Tony and Terry Brown ran the technical control at the Weston Beach Race, with Tony taking charge of the work area on race days. Anyone who rode these events would have had dealings with Tony.
Over the last few years Tony had helped the Technical Panel in preparing and delivering Off Road technical seminars and prior to covid going out to various Centre’s to deliver seminars.
Tony was ACU through and through and believed events should be run according to the “book”.
Away from bikes Tony was employed in the chemical and crane industries specifically dealing with Health and Safety risk management. In his younger days he played cricket locally to a fairly high standard.
Tony wasn’t married and is survived by a brother, Robert.
Funeral arrangements to be confirmed.
