A mature ride from Cookson takes the race win as the meeting is cancelled before the championship race. Sam Cookson joined the Streetstock championship class for this round and the young man from Leyland in Lancashire showed he is maturing as a rider by winning race one under big pressure from Phil Atkinson, Owen Monaghan and an impressive Max Garside.
The ACU 50cc Championship and the Q-Oils sponsored Streetstock Class once again had the biggest and most exciting grid of the meeting.
The conditions for race 1 were typical very damp Costa Del Wigan Mizzle as Sam blasted off from the lights, hotly pursued by Phil Atkinson, Owen Monaghan, Luis Murphy, Karl Gilbert, David Green, Max Garside and Robbie Park, who were in no mood to let him get away.
Sam pressed onwards and built himself an almost comfortable lead until he came across his first back markers. Rather than risk throwing it away in the very tricky conditions, Sam took his time getting past them; surrendering the gap to the pack behind him.
Despite temporarily losing the lead to a determined Atkinson and Monaghan, Sam got his head behind the screen and in a very competent display of wet weather riding regained 1st place and dug in to lead the run home to take the chequered flag.
Phil Atkinson was 2nd Streetstock home followed by Owen Monahan in 3rd ( on the first 50cc to finish) and Max Garside in 4th who put in a strong performance on his Streetstock.
Race two:- the championship race itself was sadly unable to run due to a large oil spill at Lunar Corner causing the rest of the PDMCC meeting to be cancelled for safety reasons.
The next round is at Mallory on the 26th of June, Hosted by Thundersport is promising to be another exciting race to watch as these riders travel to the midlands circuit
