The legendary Foxhill circuit near Swindon in Wiltshire is the destination this Sunday 17th April for the second round of the 2022 Revo ACU British Motocross Championship.
As it stands Crendon Fastrack Honda rider and reigning champion Tommy Searle heads the MX1 standings after going 1-1 in round 1 at Culham in March. The field is deep though and Tommy will need to bring his A-game again to Wiltshire after having a nightmare MX Nationals opener at Fatcats. SC Sporthomes Husqvarna rider Josh Gilbert is the form rider right now having gone 1-1 in both the MX Nationals and Bridgestone British Masters rounds and was second in moto 2 at the Culham opener. SS24 KTM’s Shaun Simpson was consistent in Culham and holds the number two spot and will look to claw back the 10 point deficit. Verde Siloh KTM rider Jake Millward was impressive in round 1 and his fast-starting could be the key to another podium at Foxhill.
Cab Screens Crescent Yamaha’s Harri Kullas took the title to the wire in 2021 and he won’t have been happy with finishing fourth overall at Culham so expect an increase in tempo for the 2021 MX Nationals Champ.
Ashton Dickinson has been a good addition to MX1 and with lightning starts it won’t be long before he is improving on his fifth spot from round 1 and pushing onto the podium. Revo Seven Kawasaki’s Dylan Walsh was recovering from injury at Culham, but a fit Walsh at Foxhill will be a different proposition.
Gabriel KTM’s Brad Todd put in two solid moto’s at Culham and will be eager to push upwards from his 8th in the standings as will Crendon Fastrack Honda’s Jake Nicholls who sits in 9th position. ASA United Gas Gas’s John Adamson rounds out the current top ten and the Scotsman is adjusting well to life in the 450s.
Other riders who could force their way into contention will be Gabriel KTM’s Liam Knight, Apico Husqvarna’s Martin Barr and Stu Edmonds and the Phoenix Tools Even Strokes Kawasaki of Petar Petrov.
MX2 is looking like a straight up battle between 2021 champion Conrad Mewse on his Stebbings Car Store KTM and Isak Gifting from Mewse’s former Hitachi KTM team. With these two duking it out in the GP’s it is clear their speed is a level above the competition. At Culham Mewse had the upper hand but Gifting has shown at recent GP’s he is the real deal so the battle between these two could be a corker.
At Culham, Apico Husqvarna veteran Jamie Law earned his first ever podium and he will doing everything he can to fend off the young guns to keep himself on the podium at Foxhills. Talking of the young upstarts GRT Impact KTM’s Kyle McNicol was superb at Culham with fourth and will be joined in the fight for a podium spot with his team mate Jamie Carpenter who was fantastic at the MX Nationals opener at Fatcats where he went 1-1.
Big Van World Kawasaki’s Taylor Hammal fought through the pain barrier in Culham and took fourth but he is not on the entry list and is thought to still be resting his injuries as it stands.
The 7th to 11th position in the standings at the moment is filled by the more experienced riders with Rob Yates, Michael Ellis, Carlton Husband and Nev Bradshaw filling four of those postions.
The other rider in the old guard sandwich is Crendon Fastrack Honda’s Jay Hague who is in the batch of young riders who underachieved with their results at Culham for various reasons but should be pushing for a podium at Foxhills which includes the Chambers Husqvarna of Tom Grimshaw, SC Sporthomes Husqvarna’s Florian Miot, Revo Seven Kawasaki’s Jamie Wainwright, Bridgestone British Masters round one winner Callum Mitchell, and Crescent Cab Screens Yamaha Sam Nunn. Stick privateer Lewis Hall into this mix too.
The other classes racing are the Small Wheel 85’s which sees Robbie Daly, Alfie Geddes-Green, Archie Jay Girdham separated by just five points and throw into the melting pot the likes of Blake Ward-Clarke, Hayden Statt and Joel Winstanley-Dawson we are in for an epic contest.
GRT Impact KTM’s Bill Askew is on fire in 2022 and goes into this weekend unbeaten in all three Big Wheel 85 National championships this year, so the challenge is on for the likes of Jake Walker, Josh Vail and Charlie Richmond to take him down a peg or two in Foxhill.
Tyler Westcott leads the charge in the Youth 250 class and will be keen to keep up his good run of form but the likes of Travis Steels, Jak Taylor and Finley Evans will have their eyes on the prize.
