Sunday the 10th of April saw the 1st round of the ACU 50cc and 125 Streetstock Championships. The classes had biggest grid of the day at the first event of the year for Darley Moor with a great turnout of riders to support each class.
Owen Monaghan dominated the overall results of both races bringing home his classic 50cc Derbi in 1st place on both occasions.
Race one started with a tussle between Owen Monaghan, Phil Atkinson and Luis Murphy. Owen soon got the better of his opponents and stretched his lead out to 4 sec plus with a demonstration of some ultra smooth riding.
Race Two (the championship race) started similarly with Owen once again controlling the front but under heavy pressure from Phil Atkinson and Luis Murphy again with Derek Betts also joining the group.
The race was red flagged at lap 5 due to a faller at Park Corner. This time Owen managed to hang on to the lead by just under a second from a battling Luis Murphy and Phil Atkinson as they fought for second and third places.
Second place and Streetstock honours went to Murphy who held off Atkinson by 2/10ths of a second.
With just over one second covering the first three places, it’s a measure of what’s to come in a fight that is shaping up to be an exciting championship in 2022
The next round is at Three Sisters race circuit on the 1st of May organized by PDMCC club.
