Without doubt the official ACU British Supermoto Warm Up Event held at Three Sisters Race Circuit this weekend was blessed with a welcomed appearance of the ‘Sun Gods’
Clear blue sky's, perfect track conditions and spectators lining the banks greeted riders which set the scene for a thrilling day of track action for all involved.
There was no doubt for any rider in relation to the choice of tyres, front and rear slicks would be the order of the day for all. The benefit of such glorious conditions avoided the need to be frantically removing wheels and switching between, slick and wet treated tyres.
The Three Sisters Circuit was in ‘tip top’ condition and clearly evident that further improvements had been made the facilities over the Winter Break. Even though not used over the weekend off road sections had all been reprofiled and regraded in preparation for the opening round of the ACU British Supermoto Championship over the Easter Weekend (15th – 16th -17th April).
Those who took the opportunity to stroll around the paddock would have found it hard not to notice the effort all teams/riders had put in over the season break to ensure bikes and riding kit were looking magnificent, and a credit to them all for promoting a professional image to onlookers and first-time visitors. From ‘Team Bathmate’ in their vivid pink and blue, through to ‘Team DCR’ in their fluorescent yellow and blue it certainly would be a joy for photographers to capture images in the spring sunshine.
On track action saw the morning taken with practice sessions, giving riders the chance to shake down their new or rebuilt machinery ahead of a series of practice races in the afternoon. On track you could visibly witness some were taking it steady, in order to settle the engines in and as the day progressed confidence and speed began to show a reduction in lap times.
Practice Races
In the first National A / Evo / Ladies A practice race it would be multi–British Champion Chris Hodgson on his LSP Husqvarna who took the chequered flag just 1.164 seconds ahead of Jay Smith on the HGR Honda Following on from this the National B / Evo / Ladies B seen Paul Reynolds cross the finish line 1.025 seconds from second place Jamie Wigglesworth. Rounding off the practice classes was the National C / Evo / Ladies and GIAG. This would see Lee Coding pushed hard to the line by Nigel Bunting and take the win by the small margin of just of 0.871 seconds.
NoraSport Media Team
On hand over the weekend were also representatives from the NoraSport Media Team running through and rehearsing for the up and coming ‘Live Feeds’ and in the process managed to grab a few words with past British Champion James Addy who has made a welcome return to the championship for 2022 plus Ann Savage who is progressing through the Ladies Championship.
