The end of an era is often used when someone or thing passes. And this can be said at the closing of the Brighton and District Motorcycle Club.
The Officers of club met on the 17th February 2022 to discuss the future of the club. The Officers present were Roger Brown President and Treasurer, Kevin McDavitt Chairman, Roslyn Brown Secretary, and Gill McDavitt Membership Secretary. Also present were John and Anita Yardley representing Trials and Bernie and Sandra Bird representing Moto Cross.
The President opened the meeting and took the chair, he proposed that as the club was no longer affiliated to the Auto Cycle Union (ACU) and had not run any events for over 7 years that the club bank account held with Barclays Bank should be closed and any residue of funds donated to The Martlets Hospice and Sussex Air Ambulance.
As no events had been run in the past 7 years and no claims had been lodged with the ACU insurers it was proposed that the Officers resign their positions and responsibilities on the 30th March 2022. This will allow the treasurer time to close the bank account.
Both proposals were passed unanimously, and the treasurer was instructed to make the donations and close the account.
As there have been no claims against the club in the last 7 years any historical official documents relating to Sporting Events run by the club may be disposed of.
These minutes are to be made public via the ACU weekly news, TSM and social media.
As President I would like to thank everyone who over the last 90 years contributed to making Brighton and District MCC a name to remember in all disciplines of motorcycle sport and activities. We promoted events at all levels, from closed to clubs through to British Championship rounds in everything except Road Racing. We even went to International level with the Clubman Sidecar Trials.
We are not sad at the closing of the club, it has run it’s course, and we all have a lifetime of happy memories to look back on.
Roger Brown, Ex-President Brighton and District MCC.
