The 2021 ACU Southern Centre Trials Championship awards were presented last weekend at the Waltham Chase MCTC annual awards ceremony in Southampton. Presentations were made by Vic Allan MBE who into the spirit of a very enjoyable event.
Tom Moss followed up his 2019 success with a second Southern Star award with three wins in the reduced seven round series this included the Geoff Chandler Trophy Trial. Rob Hoyles collected the clubman expert award after a close fought season which he won in the last round at the Perce Simon Trophy Trial pushing Andy Kilbey into second.
The Clubman class had six different winners with Mick Marshall winning the award after topping two of the rounds including the opening round, the George Greenland Trophy Trial. On the most popular Sportsman route Matty Brown and Carl Barr shared the award, the experienced Brown took a perfect three wins from three rounds whilst the ever improving Barr collected points across five of the seven rounds. Andy Pattison was the clear winner of the veteran C class with one win and three seconds. Multiple Centre Champions Geoff Muston and Bob Hampton picked up the Twinshock and Pre65 awards, next season will be interesting as they will both be competing in the Twinshocks.
Jim Gray returned to competition at the end of 2020 on his Ariel and showed his experience finishing top of the Pre65 D class on the novice route, the first time this class has been included in the championship. Evergreen George Greenland had three seconds to finish runner up in the series.
Father and son duo Lloyd and David James both picked up awards scoring exactly the same number of points Lloyd took the novice award and David the Youth D. Whilst Adam Kilbey went one better than Dad Andy picking up the Youth C award after outscoring Holly Guest by one point.
In 2022, Mike Wiseman the championship coordinator has got the championship back firing on all cylinders with eleven rounds planned beginning
