Round five of the EMRA championships takes place at Mallory Park on Sunday 4th September, with the final round coming up on 24th October
Top of the bill as always is the Chase Accident Repair/King Dick Tools/Dunlop Mallory Trophy which has been led for most of the year by Louis Dawson, whose lead over Ashley King stands at 64 points. August’s race meeting saw Louis take two second places behind Leon Jeacock, having a very busy weekend away from the national Superstock championships, who led both races from start to finish. Louis was second ahead of Ashley King in both races with Luke Burnett fourth in race one but fifth behind 600 class winner Ricky Tarren in the second race.
Leon also won both of the JHP Ducati Coventry Allcomers races on his 1000 Suzuki, with Ashley King coming out best in a three-way scrap with Luke Burnett and Carl Morris in race one. Burnett spent the whole of race two fending off King and he took second place by just a third of a second, which enabled him to close King’s championship lead to just six points.
Ricky Tarren kept up his seven-race sequence of victories in the Tamworth Yamaha 600 championship to increase his lead to 32 points over Jed Bird who has finished second to Tarren in five of those races, and third in the other two.
Sam Leach led the first Midland Superbike Rookies race for the first five laps, when Kyle Abell took the lead, but at the end it was Alex Pearson, who had qualified eleventh in the wet, who came through the field to take the win. It was Sam Leach again who took the early lead in the second race, but this time he was able to hold on to it as Harry Morris-Meadows followed him home. Leach holds a 64-point lead over Pearson in the 600 category of the championship, while Gary Evans leads the 1000cc class from Stephen Watson.
Louis Dawson continued his 660 Aprilia project with two more wins in the Supertwins class ahead of Jamie Kelman while Darren Corkett took the Minitwins after a tremendous battle for third overall with Marcus Tatchell and Richard Saunders in both races. Having only joined this class halfway through the year, Louis has a 65-point gap on Kelman to close. Darren Corkett has a healthy lead in the Minitwins series from John Bolsover with Richard Saunders third, while in the Powerslide F400 championship Marcus Tatchell is 61 points up on Tony Brabazon. Marcus also heads the open 500 championship after a run of seven consecutive victories in the class.
Steve Brittain and Aaron Staniforth continued their long-running rivalry in the Properly Protected Pre-injection races, fighting for the lead with the gap never greater than the half second that was Brittain’s winning margin. The second race went to Staniforth by five seconds from Brittain and Aaron and Steve each hold a commanding lead in the 600 and 1000 categories of the championship.
John Lea continued his winning run in the Alamo Racing Sound of Music two-stroke series, beating Alan Moreton in both races. Sam Ward took the 125 honours in both races and John Chambers scored another two Earlystock wins.
Double points for the final round on 24th October means that most championships will be decided on the last day, but there are a few titles that could be won on Sunday, but it will need those on long winning runs to keep them going.
