Belle Vue’s Dan Bewley has been confirmed as Great Britain's sole representative in the FIM European Under-21 qualifier at Divisov on August 1.
Young Lions boss Neil Vatcher explained: “Three qualifiers were arranged to take place, one each in the Czech Republic, Ukraine and Finland, where GB had been allocated three places.
“Unfortunately, due to Covid-19 the qualifiers in the Ukraine and Finland have been cancelled, and now there will only be one qualifier which is taking place at Divisov.
“The nominations have been re-allocated with ten nations including GB being allocated one place, and three others, namely the host nation Czech Republic, Poland and Russia, being allocated two places
“It is disappointing to only have one place, as with so much talent in the UK now with the Under-21 riders, the plan before Covid-19 was to give as much experience in Europe to the Under-21 riders as possible with the likes of Tom Brennan, Anders Rowe, Drew Kemp, Kyle Bickley, Leon Flint and Jason Edwards to name just a few.
“But it is crazy times we are in at the moment, and the safe-keeping of all concerned is paramount.
“When offered the one place it was a no-brainer to put Dan’s name forward, as he has qualified for the Final for the last three years in this competition, and only missed out on a rostrum place last autumn by one point.
“This will be Dan’s last shot at this title, so I know he is determined to give it his very best shot, so he will take his place in and try to achieve his goal of qualifying for his fourth consecutive Final and ultimately bring home the Gold medal for Britain.”
The Final takes place at Nagyhalasz in Hungary on September 12.
