At the recent Annual General Meeting of the Southern 100 Motorcycle Racing Club, four retiring Directors were made honorary Vice Presidents of the club making six in total.
The four, Herbie (David) Kelly, Harvey Garton, Alan Reid and Richard Haddock, have sixty-four years’ service between them were presented with certificates in appreciation of their time and commitment to the racing on the Billown Course by Club President Phil Taubman MBE and Chairman George Peach.
The ‘quartet’ join Don Fairbairn and Dr David Stevens MBE as Vice Presidents, with both Herbie and Harvey having also raced around the 4.25-mile course, Harvey piloting Sidecars between 1989 and 1991 and Herbie on two-wheels between 1978 and 1998.
Phil Taubman MBE said:
‘On behalf of the Southern 100 Club, I would like to thank all four retiring directors for all their conscientious and hard work during their time as directors guiding the races to the high standard and reputation they enjoy today. ‘They have all informed me that each of them will still be involved once pre-race and course preparation commences and during our three events and look forward to their continued support and seeing them at Billown.’
At the conclusion of the AGM members present enjoyed a splendid buffet provided by Bob and Jill Walton for which the Southern 100 Club were most grateful.
