In just over two weeks-time nineteen-year-old Toby Martyn will make one of the most eagerly awaited outings of his already accomplished career when he competes in the 25th anniversary edition of Sheffield Indoor Trial at the FlyDSA arena on Saturday 28th December. The young Cornishman’s recent shock switch to TRRS machinery has certainly captured the attention of many, especially after Martyn won first time out at national level.
Having endured a frustrating 2019 season in the World series, the 2018 Trial2 Vice World Champion will be keen to make a strong impact as he makes his debut on the international stage on board a bike that Adam Raga has already proved to be capable of winning at the highest level.
Whilst unable to repeat his previous season’s form during the latest TrialGP campaign, Martyn established himself as a real contender in the 2019 British championship with a round win on the penultimate day helping him secure a hard fought, but well-deserved runner’s-up spot in the final rankings.
Toby will be one of three British youngsters, from the country’s current rich pool of emerging talent, who have been selected along with the latest Spanish teenage sensation to take part in what promises to be a tense and explosive opening to the 25th anniversary event. The newly introduced Young Guns Shoot-Out will see Toby Martyn, Dan Peace, Jack Peace and Pau Martinez fight it out to book their spot alongside the pre-selected six riders who will be headed up by the reigning King of Sheffield Toni Bou.
Having made his Sheffield Indoor Trial debut earlier this year, Toby now knows what to expect when he arrives back in the Steel City very soon, and from his point of view the 28th December cannot come soon enough as he explained: "My debut at this event last year was a special one, it’s an event that I have watched for years and always dreamed of riding in – then it became a reality. This year I’m so excited to be returning to the arena. This time on a new bike with more motivation than ever, which of course will be boosted with the backing of the home crowd! See you there on the 28th I can’t wait!”
The full line up for Saturday 28th December is as follows: Toni Bou – Repsol Honda, Adam Raga - TRRS, Jaime Busto – Vertigo, Jeroni Fajardo – Sherco, James Dabill – Beta and Jack Price – Gas Gas as the six seeded riders. They will be joined by the best two from the young guns’ shoot-out that will include Toby Martyn – TRRS, Dan Peace – Sherco, Jack Peace - Sherco and Pau Martinez – Vertigo.
