The awesome 1000cc Sidecars are returning to Somerset on Friday for the final round of the 2019 ACU British Sidecar Speedway Championships.
Leading the way going into the final is former champion Mark Cossar with passenger Gareth Williams. They hold a slender two-point lead over Mick Cave/Bradley Steer with Will Penfold/Ricky Pay a further two points in arrears. Last season’s champions Paul Whitelam/Alan Elliott will be looking for a good night after failing to make the A-Final at the last round. But they are still in touching distance only five points behind Cossar/Williams. So, the 2019 champions will probably come from those four crews.
But it’s the final and all sixteen crews will be wanting to stand on the podium at the end of the night. The racing is sure to be close, no crew wanting to give an inch in the adrenaline fuelled sport of Sidecar Speedway.
The last round in Somerset saw some excellent racing with a few upsets on the night. No less than nine of the sixteen crews gaining race wins proving the race series has real strength in depth. A fact echoed by Russell Mitchell, a former Australian Champion and frame builder who was visiting the UK and present in the West Country.
Seventeen crews will be heading to the West Country on Friday and the action starts at 6.30pm with Practice. The Tapes go up at 7.30pm for the first race of over twenty-heats of fairing rubbing action. With the entrance price held at £10 for adults and Free for Under 16’s it really is a great night for all the family.
