With Round 4 still a very recent memory the Darley Moor Motor Cycle Road Race Club are already preparing for Round 5 this coming Sunday, 4th August 2019 at the Darley Moor Motorsports Centre, near Ashbourne, DE6 2ET.
With just three rounds remaining nobody has stretched out a large enough gap at the head of the Championship tables to feel safe, especially considering the final round has double points on offer, 36points available for a win. Two championships, the Peak Cup and Classic & Forgotten Era 251cc to 500cc classes currently have a tie at the head of the table, whilst four others have less than 10points difference between the top two competitors. For supporters of Darley’s local riders there are still many in with a shout of the silverware.
Ash Stone (Matlock) and Josh Daly (Wigan) both lead the standings in the Peak Cup class with Richard Eglin (Derby) sat in 3rd place, 25points behind the leaders. Daly is also leading the Open Solo class, but in this Championship he has an 11point lead over Eglin, with Richard Charlton (Co Durham) 3rd, 14 points behind the leader.
Tony Griffiths (Pontypridd) and Mike Lees (Congleton) are also tied on points at the top of the Classic & Forgotten Era 251cc – 500cc class, Chris Moore (High Peak) lies in 3rd place, just 10points adrift of the leaders. Two local riders lead the other two Classic & Forgotten Era classes; Graham Oakley (Chesterfield) with a 12point advantage in the ‘Up To 250cc’ class and David Bradley (Matlock) holds a 17point advantage in the ‘501cc – 1300cc’ class. Griffiths and Moore are also battling it out in the Lightweight Championship, although the standings are different, both are trailing James Ford (High Peak), Moore in 2nd spot 11points behind, with Griffiths a further 4points back, in 3rd.
Derby’s sidecar driver, Roy Tansley and French passenger, Freddy Lelubez currently lead the Open Sidecar class by just 3points from the Anthony Eades/Lewis Kemp (Hyde) pairing. The Formula 600 sidecar class is almost as close at the top of the table with Roger & Bradley Stockton (Winsford) holding a slim 8point advantage over Howard Baker & Mike Killingsworth (Sutton Coldfield/Lincs). Just a further 3points behind is George Holden (Stoke on Trent), son of TT winner John, with Oscar Lawrence (Kingsclere) in the passenger ‘seat’ for this round, helping keep the outfit on track.
Another Derby competitor, Adam Walters currently leads the, new for 2019, Pre-Injection Championship by a slim margin, just 6points separating him from Anthony Froggatt (Worksop), with Andrew Boulton (Newcastle under Lyme) a further 7 points adrift in 3rd place.
Another new class for this season, the Senior Championship, has David Glossop (Wilmslow) leading from Freddie Simcox (Newark) by just 8points. Running alongside these competitors will be those in the Junior Championship and as it stands the Darley Moor club could see it’s first female champion with Katie Hands (Cabourne) enjoying a 14point lead over Scarlett Robinson (New Mills), although with two wins at Round 4, McAuley Longmore (Willenhall) is only another point behind Robinson, the first of the lads intent on clawing back the deficit.
Buxton’s Tim Walsh will be looking to close the gap on Stuart Bradbury (Kilburn) in the Pre-Electronic 600cc & 750 Twin Championship, currently in the Runner-Up place, 14points behind the Championship leader.
Mark Brailsford (Chesterfield) will be looking to maintain his 100% record, winning all eight races so far this season in the Honda CB500 & Suzuki 600 Bandit Championship and enjoying a 20point advantage over Liam Clements (Newcastle under Lyme).
With a total of 72points available in each class nothing is certain yet and there has already been some excellent racing this season, you can guarantee this will get even more fraught towards the end of the season. So, don’t miss out, maybe make a weekend of it?
Practice starts at 10am on Sunday, with the races scheduled to begin around 11.30am
