This year, the Isle of Man Steam Packet Company comes of age as it celebrates 21-years as Title Sponsor of the Southern 100 Road Races having first taken on the role in 1999.
However the Island’s Lifeline has been involved with the ‘Friendly Races’ for some 32 years, initially sponsoring various races over the years since their first involvement in 1987.
The Isle of Man Steam Packet Company is far more than ‘just the title sponsor’ for the July races which have been run since 1955 as they assist in may ways prior to and sometimes after the actual races, arranging and bringing over vital safety equipment and course furniture to ensure the safety or riders and enhance the fans and spectators experience.
‘The Packet’ have been very much involved with transporting over the metal and other structural work for the club’s new Race Control which has been built this year prior to racing commencing in late May.
Additionally, the Isle of Man Steam Packet Company are very helpful to the club in getting our Competitors over with special rates as well as helping us out in many different ways like providing the wonderful prize for the Plaque Fund to helping get our Marshals from the adjacent isle over on special rates.
Race Secretary, Rachel Palmer said: ‘ The Southern 100 Club have an excellent working relationship with the Isle of Man Steam Packet Company, built up through many years and they are always willing to assist us when necessary to ensure that the high safety standards we have set are maintained for the benefit of competitors and spectators alike and in assisting with travel arrangements for competitors and marshals.
‘We are very much indebted to them for their continued and much valued sponsorship and are very proud to have them as Title Sponsors of the Southern 100 Road Races.’
