The second round of the 2017 Maxxis British championships was held at the PJMX circuit near Blyth, Northumberland hosted by the Iveston & Satley MCC. This was a track that was new to every sidecar driver and although it was not particularly technical the racing was good in all three legs.
In timed practice Stuart Brown / Joe Millard were quickest ahead of the series leaders Gary Moulds / Steve Kirwin with Brett Wilkinson / Dan Chamberlain in third place.
When the gate dropped for the start of the first leg Brown took the lead into turn one from Wilkinson. Brown pulled away in the next few laps and went on to win comfortably from Wilkinson. Tony Grahame / Harley Lloyd started off in third place but after five minutes were passed by George Kinge / Ryan Humphrey. Kinge went on to finish third whilst Grahame dropped another place on the penultimate lap being passed by Gary Moulds.
The track was well watered during the lunch interval and when the gate dropped for race two Brown again took the holeshot from Wilkinson with Dan Foden / Scott Grahame in third. Gary Moulds was in fourth place but on lap two his engine gave up and his race was over. This promoted Kinge and Hodges to fourth and fifth. The top five held their positions to the flag.
In the final race of the day Wilkinson took the holeshot from Brown and although Brown closed to gap to less than a bike’s length at some places he was never able to get past and Wilkinson took the win from Brown. Moulds, who had replaced his engine between races, started in fourth and went on to finish third. Grahame who had started in sixth came home in fourth.
Brown now leads the championship by five points from Wilkinson with Moulds now third. In the Experts class Hodges / Ide are now leading from G Moulds with Jake Brown / Connor in third place.
The next round is at Foxhill on the 25
th June hosted by the Nora Quad club.
