Round 2 of the ACU 50cc Championship was held at a sunny if breezy Mallory Park with EMRA last Sunday 14th May. With 28 riders entered on a mix of Classic and Freetech machinery it was going to be hotly contested for both classes.
Qualifying produced some good speeds and times from the 50's with Sam Grief putting in a 1m 11s lap and Scott Dootson a 1m 14s lap with speeds approaching 70mph. 27 bikes qualified on the grid for the championship race 1.
The race was dry and produced a different set of podium finishers to Tonfanau with Simon Dillon taking 1st place in the Freetech class followed by Doug Martin & Scott Dootson. The classic riders again swapped podiums with Sam Grief taking 1st place followed by Karen England & Gavin Mills.
A great days racing put on by our hosts EMRA and the weather held for the later club rounds of 50cc racing.
The championship standings are as follows, Freetech - Hudson Kennaugh 16 points, Darren Eaton & Simon Dillon on 12 points and Doug Martin 10 points. Classic -Paul Whiting & Sam Grief joint first with 12 points each, Martin Robbins and Karen England with 10 points and Steve Lawton & Gavin Mills with 8 points each.
Onto round 3 which is at Darley Moor circuit on the 18th June.
