With a short break since the second round of the Thor ACU British Youth National Championship, which took place at Brampton, Cumbria, RHL Activities is in full swing putting the final things in place and the lorry loaded for the trip across to Desertmartin in Northern Ireland.
The BYN was last at Desertmartin back in 2015, where we saw some outstanding racing from championship riders and local wildcard riders, so we’re expecting the forthcoming weekend to be full of thrills and spills from our motocross young guns.
Round three of the British Youth Nationals, which takes place on May 20 and 21 will see all eyes on our current championship leaders Howard Wainwright, Rossi Beard, Dominic Lancett, Alfie Jones & Wal Beaney, as they continue their battles to retain their series’ leads. However, all is still to play for across all the championship categories, as we hit the half waypoint of the series.
Desertmartin is one of few tracks that has full planning permission for year-round use. ’The Desert’, as it is affectionately known, has been developed over the years and is classed as one of the best tracks in the world by many riders. It has played host to many races from club level to national and world championship events including the FIM World Motocross Championship, Maxxis British Motocross Championship and of course the Thor British Youth Nationals, while the sandy terrain certainly creates some memorable racing and it is of course a great experience for riders.
Gareth Hockey, RHL Activities Director commented: “As we land at Desertmartin for this year’s British Youth National Championship event we are halfway through the six rounds and I would like to say what superb racing we have witnessed in the first two events of the year. I look forward to seeing the future riders of the sport battle around Desertmartin, which is a track with real pedigree and can play an important role in the development of the youngsters in our series. The championships are really hotting up in each category, and we expect it to be a superb weekend of racing on a really spectacular track.”
