Jasper Fox’s The OSET Cup North
A winter of hard practice for 9-year-old Jasper Fox from near Scunthorpe saw the Lincolnshire lad enjoy a stand out ride at the first round of the OSET Cup North at Westwood this weekend.

Fox finished on just 14 dabs, riding his OSET 20.0 and using the event as a practice for the nationals where he plans to ride a petrol bike in the D-Class medium wheel, demonstrating that you can mix and match machines.

For the first time, following the launch of the OSET 24.0 Junior, the team ran a C-Class with four riders on the new bike.

Simon Armstrong from OSET Bikes, said: “We had 38 riders across four routes and three age groups.  These events continue to go from strength to strength and be well supported.  There is a strong pipeline of young riders looking to develop their trials riding skills, which is great news for the sport.”

As the debate continues whether girl’s nationals should include a D-Class, Matilda Arbon from North Yorkshire demonstrated she clearly has the ability to ride at the highest level, taking the top spot in the D-Class hard route, in which a number of the male competitors, plan to ride nationals this year.

World arm wrestling champion from Blackburn, Neil Pickup gave the whole event a lift and was delighted when his son Ryland bagged first place in the white route 16.0s and youngest son Dempsey came away with smile of the day!

It was a world-class day at the OSET Cup as ex-World Downhill mountain bike champion, Steve Peat came along with his son, George who looked to enjoy two wheels as much as his dad.

Simon Armstrong added: “The new format of giving rosettes instead of trophies meant the ability to reward and acknowledge the effort and abilities of more children and even the parents got a look in.  I was particularly proud of Ralph Hoyle and Alfie Carney’s dads who bagged parent of the day awards after they both ran round every section, chasing their respective sons all day and came away a good couple of belt notches tighter.”

A huge thank you go to Chris Fannon for helping set out and Rachel Armstrong for helping with sign ons, observing and final results!  All OSET Cups could not take place without the many people that volunteer their time to make it happen – thank you!
