Busy year ahead for Waltham Chase

Friday February 24, 2017 at 3:42pm
Waltham Chase’s next event is the Beginners “Oakridge Copse” Trial on Saturday 4th March being held at Grimstead Rd, Alderbury. Post code SP5 3RQ gets you close to the venue and then look out for the “Arrows”.

The gates are open from 11.30, with the Trial starting at 1.00. The sections will be suitable for newcomers and those wanting a little “practice”. Nothing too challenging.

There will be C, D and E routes with an “unclassified red route” thrown in for good measure.

Please look out for tree stumps when parking and park tightly as space is very limited.

One day Club Membership and ACU licence is available at a cost of £5.00.

There will be no catering van at this Trial so do bring along some refreshments.

Practice Trial - Sunday 19th March

We have had to do some juggling with our dates, but so as not to lose a day’s sport, we hare holding a “Practice Trial” on Sunday the 19th March, instead of the scheduled event.  Some sections will be marked out for you to ride, or you can mark your own if you want something a little more challenging.  There are no points or awards to be won this event.

The cost is £10.00 for adults and £5.00 for youth riders

Gates are open from 10.30 for a 11.00 start and will be closed at 3.30. You can turn up at any time between these times. Please do not arrive earlier as you will have to wait on the busy main road.

One day Club Membership and ACU licence is available.

Sam’s Catering van will be serving hot and cold refreshments so that you can have a nice day out without me mithering on about observers and what section to start on etc. etc.!

Club Championship Round 3 – Saturday 25th March

Another date change – don’t turn up on Sunday the 26th for this one – Round 3 is now on a Saturday.

You may need to be somewhere else on the Sunday – enough said?

Start time is also a little later than normal at 11.00.

Confirmation - Sam’s catering van will be at this event.

The Doreen Earle Summer Series Round 1 – Saturday 1st April

Well here we go again! It’s time for the first round of the six Trials in the 2017 series. We have renamed the Youth and Wobblers Series to “The Doreen Earle Summer Series”, but the classes etc. will remain the same.

Gates are open from 12.00 for practice, with the trial start time scheduled for 2.00pm. Volunteer observers are appreciated in advance, no payment is made, but it is a good way to spend a Saturday afternoon.

Please Note: There will be no catering facilities at the Saturday afternoon Trials.

Hut Hill Fencing Day – Sunday 2nd April (Next day!)

Look out for further details – but hold the date if you can help with the construction of a robust wooden barrier along the road facing boundary of Hut Hill, car park clearing and a general tidy up.

The Keith Marshall Classic Trial – Sunday 9th April

No problem with Observers for this event then!

As we have over 80 members with water cooled bikes, who will not be able to enter this Trial, for Twin Shocks, Pre-65’s and Air Cooled Mono’s and a Youth Class for TY80’s only. Full details are on the entry form which is available to download from the Waltham Chase website

The St Paul Trophy Trial - Sunday 30th April

Another one not to miss, with the venue this being “Bryce’s Farm”, our first of two events at this venue in 2017, so you should have a good day’s sport.

All proceeds from this event are donated to the ACU “Ben Fund”, so it’s a good way to donate to the charity and get a ride in return.

Please note; there will be no “E” or electric bike classes in the main “pit”, however if some parents would like to look after our younger riders for the day we have an area where we can mark out separate sections for them. Better than chasing them around all day! But you do need to confirm in advance if you are intending to ride.

The only award for this event is the coveted silver “St Paul Trophy”, first presented in 1953, which is presented to the “Best Expert”

Start time 10.30, and Sam’s Catering is confirmed.

Netley Marsh “Trials Display” - 21st – 23rd July.

Seems a long way away but once Easter is behind us it will be here before you know it.

Steve Earle has volunteered to manage this event again this year, but we do need your help.

If you would like to take part in the display, we need confirmation as soon as possible to secure passes as they are limited.

Please also confirm if you wish to camp on site for the weekend – not a bad way to spend three days, especially as it going to be sunny this year.

Confirm by way of email to Steve and CC walthamchasetrials@outlook.com

Now here is a chance to promote your business free of charge for three days; we need some bright waste skips and other suitable obstacles to use in the display. What do you have available?

If we have enough Oset riders taking part, we will set up some “E Route” sections and have a younger riders corner – any volunteers to help out? It would be good to promote “Trials” to a younger audience.

The “Forty Fifth and a Bit” – Club Anniversary Party – Friday 6th October

There is live entertainment from the “Glitterbugz”, a glam rock 70’s tribute band, with dancing and a buffet. Doors open from 7.30 through until late.

Advance ticket purchase is required – book by email or at any Trial.

Tickets are priced at £5.00 each.

Parental discretion is required whether the event suitable for very young children; men in pink jumpsuits may be a little scary. Wait to you see mine!

Wear something from the 70’s – but at least a moustache and tank top.
