After a period of consultation with its riders, the Wirral Hundred club has announced the introduction of a ‘Pre-Electronics Powerbikes’ class for over 700cc machines manufactured in the period 1998 to 2008. Essentially the bikes must have no electronic aids such as engine maps, traction control, launch control or anti-lock brakes, and will have standard cdi’s for ignition control. Quick shifters and Power Commanders (or similar) will be allowed.
The idea for the new class is twofold: firstly to give an extra incentive to those already competing in the Club’s Powerbikes races on older /pre-rider aids bikes, and secondly, with a plentiful supply of reasonably-priced second-hand machines around, including those being used in track-day activities, to generate new entries.
There will be a sub-division for Golden Era Superbikes (unchanged from previous years) for pre-2001 superbikes, mainly catering for 750cc 4-cylinder machines.
The Club starts off its season with a triple-header at Anglesey on 25th & 26th March. Saturday sees a Test Day for any ACU licence-holders, as well as an ACU New Riders’ Course, whilst Sunday sees the first rounds of its Club Championship races. Regulations and entry forms will be available for downloading from the club’s website in February.
