Eight clubs from all corners of Britain travelled to Navarra to contest the International Six Days Enduro, like their Trophy team compatriots the riders were determined to show they weren’t there to make the numbers up.
The enthusiastic Dyfed club who seemed to have brought the entire club membership with them suffered cruel luck on the very first test on the very first day when Phil Jenkins came off on a slow corner to break his collarbone and end his participation in the event. Other teams were faring better with Scotland, Army, Wales and St Georges all in the top twenty, with St George’s Daryl Bolter individually in the top ten. This set the tone for the week with Scotland’s team of Fraser Norrie, Frazer Flockhart and Euan McConnell working their way up the leader board into fourth by Day Five.
Daryl Bolter’s fortunes changed on Day Five when his bike stopped just yards from the start putting him out for the day and dropping the team out of the top twenty.
At the end of the event Scotland retained their fourth place while the Army and Welsh teams put in solid performances to finish 10th and 12th respectively. The two teams from Witley all rode a steady event with the main aim of getting all six to the finish which they achieved with the A team in 55th and the B team in 74th.
An enthusiastic young team from the Isle of Man finished 101st after losing Richard Curphey on Day three with machine problem, while the two remaining Dyfed riders finished 117th. St Georges finally ended up 57th overall out of 123 club teams
A good week for the club teams showing the strength in depth British Enduros has with 21 of the 24 starters reaching the finish, individually Frazer Flockhart finished in 9th overall, Kev Murray 13th, 18th for Euan McConnell and 19th for Fraser Norrie - not bad out of 369 riders.
