Michael Brown continued his return to top form following his major knee injury last year, with a hard fought win in the Lakes Two Day Trial, held in the South Lakeland area around Broughton in Furness.
After posting a third place position on the opening day, Brown - the Mighty Atom - upped his game on day two by riding the 40 sections with the loss of just one mark to finish on a total of 12, two fewer than runner up Iwan Roberts, one of the Trial des Nations riders who recently represented Great Britain in France.
“I can’t even remember where I had the dab” said Brown at the finish, until one of his challengers reminded him that he had taken a fleeting prod on a double step a quarter of the way through the second day.
Richard Sadler was third, on 28 marks lost, double the total of the runner up Roberts.
In the hotly contested Clubman class, Darren Wasley proved to be the winner from Irish rider Harold Crawford, having a day’s trailing practice prior to the forthcoming Scott time and observation trial, whilst in third place was Phil Houghton who had led after day one.
Such is the popularity of the Lakes trial, nearly 170 riders took to the start line on Saturday morning for an event that has been held in the area for more than 40 years.
