A strong line-up for the British Grasstrack Championships head to Dig Dog Lane, Frittenden, Kent (TN17 2AX) this Sunday 18th September. All the action will start with practice at 11am and the first Race at 1pm
The 250cc Class looks a tough one to call, with the absence of reigning champion Zach Wajknecht through injury, there is a chance of a new name on the trophy. There are some previous champions in the running, with Dave Knowles previous winner back in 2004 and was third last year at Cheshire, and Adam Shipp who won back-to-back titles in 2002 & 2003. Eastbourne Eagles Luke Harris looks to be one of the contenders to the crown, along with Chris Johnson & Tim Greig who claimed the South-Eastern Centre Championships at this venue last season. Throw in Jed Collins, Ben Ilsley and Jamie Pantrey, it is certainly going to be one the tightest classes of the afternoon.
The 350cc Class has Tom Perry return to try and defend his title he won last year. He won't have it all his own way as Paul Hurry also will be competing in this class, plus local riders Gareth Hickmott and Mark Giles who look to also be in the mix.
The Left Hand Sidecars headed by GTSAs very own Will Penfold, with passenger Ricky Pay are back to defend their title they claimed in 2015. Will was also champion in 2013. Father and Son duo Eirwyn/Alex Balman have had 2 second places in the last 3 years will look to go one better, along with 2014 Champions Martin Cuff/Colin Clark. Charlie Ridley/Harry McQuirke making a rare outing this season, having finished on the final step of the podium in each of the last 3 seasons. Add in the exciting Gary Potter/William Naden plus Paul Marley who is passenger by Richard Webb who himself has claimed a hat trick of British titles in 2010, 2011 & 2012 it really could go either way.
500cc Sidecars has defending Champions and previous European Champions Josh Goodwin/Liam Brown who have claimed the title in 2011, 2013 & 2015. In between those years, Shaun Harvey/Danny Hogg took the top step and have claimed this crown 8 times since 2004. 'Team Goodwin' were in fantastic form in the support class at the European Solo Final just last week and look to be favourites to claim a 4th British title. In the 500cc Sidecars, the winner of the final will also claim the 'Lester Goodwin Memorial Trophy'
The 1000cc Right Hand Sidecars are the support class for this meeting, competing for the 'Mick Steer Memorial Trophy', will potentially have a new name on it, as defending winners Mark Cossar/Carl Blyth aren't competing this weekend. However, Rob Wilson/Terry Saunters, who won the first ever running of the 'Mick Steer Memorial' in 2009 and runners up last year are hoping to reclaim it. Myles Simmons/Kevin Woodley, 'Pocket Rocket' Paul Whitelam/Alan Elliott cannot be ruled out of making a bid for the title.
