Round four of the 2016 ACU Championships takes place this coming Bank Holiday weekend 27-29th August at the APIRA Open Sports Nationals at Shakespeare County Raceway.
Funny Bike.
Phil Crossley leads the championship after winning the Summernationals and has been running in the 7.2sec bracket like clockwork for most of this season. Eric Richard is in second place in the points table. Allan Davies has always done well at Shakespeare County in recent years and could be a dark horse to win the event. Reigning ACU Funny Bike Champion Dave Peters has had a couple of mechanical issues this season and will be hoping to be back on his championship form. Pete Le Gros got close to his first seven-second pass here at the Springspeed Nationals event in May, and hoping to achieve it at the Open Sports Nationals.
Comp Bike.
After winning the Summernationals Eddy Smiley tops the table in Comp Bike and had been running in the high seven-second bracket for most of the season. Reigning ACU Comp Bike Champion Kevin Osman and Mick Winyard are Smiley’s main challengers. Martin Walker is getting quicker as the year goes and Dave Batcheler is starting to get to grips with his new bike. Paul Hambridge has not had a good season so far and will be hoping to find the form he had last year.
Super Street Bike.
Both Steve Venables and teammate Graham Balchin competed in Hockenheim last weekend and both have entered this event. Chris Reed last year’s number two plate in the ACU Championship, could surprise both Venables and Balchin. Nigel Barker is starting to tune his new combination and did well at the Springspeed Nationals here in May.
