Bristol Grass Racing Combine in association with MCS LTD proudly present the 2016 ACU British Masters Grasstrack Championships at their venue of Hangar Farm, Lower Stanton, St. Quentin, Nr Chippenham, Wiltshire SN14 6HG this Sunday 14th August. Practice is from 11:00am with first race due at 1pm. This meeting is one of the most hotly anticipated meetings of the year for the 500cc Solos and the awesome 1000cc Right Hand Sidecars
Key Riders in the 500cc Solo’s include defending Champion James Shanes who has won most domestic grass tracks this year, and his all action style is one to watch. James has also been riding for the Kent Kings Speedway team and has picked up some impressive results in Europe this year.
Speedway GP and Coventry Bees rider Chris Harris makes his second consecutive Masters appearance after qualifying for the final in last year’s event at Wimborne and looked on the pace until bike issues ended his day early. Another Speedway star competing is former GP rider and Belle Vue rider Scott Nicholls who will be making his first appearance on the grass for some years.
Former Masters Champion Andrew Appleton is one of the most consistent riders over the last few years and will be looking to add to his collection of Masters titles. Previous Champion Paul Hurry is competing in his first Masters for a while and has looked impressive on his return to the sport this year, including winning a couple of meetings at Frittenden this year.
In the 1000cc Sidecar class Multi-Masters Champions and last year’s runners up Mark Cossar/Carl Blyth start as one of the favourites having won pretty much all races and meetings this year, and looking unstoppable. It would be hard to bet against them, but with the winner-takes-all final, this meeting always springs a surprise.
Defending Champions Colin Blackbourn/Carl Pugh will also be another one of the favourites for the title, along former Champion Rod Winterburn and his passenger, who took victory in the British SandAce in May.
Another pairing to look out for is Rob Wilson/Terry Saunters (Rob former masters champion) the Team 24 have been there or thereabouts this year, including a second place finish a few weeks ago behind Cossar/Blyth at Frittenden.
