Round 5 of the R T Keedwell sponsored ACU British Solo Trials Championship was held last weekend at Kelly Farm, Lustleigh in South Devon.
The organising West of England Club had laid on 12 challenging sections high on the wood side and consisting of the usual climbs with big boulders everywhere.
James Dabill continued on his quest for another Championship crown with an eleven mark win from Jack Sheppard and Jack Price. Dib’s did not have things his own way early on with young Tom Hooper actually making the best first lap on his Sherco. Dabill however moved into top gear by lap 3 when he almost had a clean lap only to be caught out for a one mark loss on the final hazard of the day.
With Sheppard keeping lap 2 and 3 scores in single figures he just got into runner up place by one mark from Jack Price who was in turn grabbing the last podium place. He got the better of Toby Martyn on the final circuit but it was a good day for the younger riders.
If you go down to Devon and Joe Baker has an entry in the Expert class then it is odds on he will be right up there. This was the case on the weekend as he cleaned Lap 1 and was never headed from then on. Tom Minta now aboard a Gas Gas was second which keeps the pressure on series leader Dan Thorpe who came home third. Section 3 on the final lap kept Dan from second spot as his main rivals had gone clean here.
Jack Peace kept up his superb run in the Youth A class with another comprehensive win. Three laps of fours marks on each circuit was testament to his ability. His worst score was a three at section 6 on lap 2 but he cleaned it on his final circuit which really was no surprise. Josh Hanlon came home in second from Keiran Child but all of the 125 riders gave it 100% all day.
