Hundreds of motorcycling fans were at Donington Park yesterday (22 May) for a unique meet and greet event ahead of the only UK round of the Superbike World Championship at the circuit this weekend (27-29 May).
Fans were able to rub shoulders with the stars of the show, including legendary racer and King of the Jungle Carl Fogarty, and current Superbike World Championship riders Alex Lowes and Josh Brookes. Other riders present were World Supersport Brits Luke Stapleford, Stefan Hill and Kyle Ryde, who exclusively announced that he would be returning to the World Supersport grid with the Schmidt MV Agusta team.
The day included a live question and answer session with all the riders as well as an extensive autograph session, allowing practically every attendee to go home with an autograph from the riders as a memento of their day.
The Donington Collections were also opened to all, free of charge for the first time in many years, allowing fans to view the incredible military and Grand Prix car displays in the famous halls, while outside there was plenty of family entertainment including bouncy castles, supercar displays and a fire engine for people to explore.
Donington Park Sporting Director Bob Adams commented: “It was fantastic to see so many enthusiastic fans at the event. It’s not very often that the fans of the sport are able to meet the stars in such a relaxed and informal atmosphere, and everyone went home happy judging by the very positive reaction on our social media feeds. We’ve been working very closely with the Superbike World Championship organisers Dorna to ensure the fan experience at the event this weekend is as good as it can be, and this meet and greet session was a flavour of things to come at the World Superbike race event, with fans again able to get close to their favourite riders.”
