The action of the MOTUL FIM Superbike World Championship kicks off at Donington Park on Friday 27th May, with the first practice and qualifying sessions of the weekend, ahead of Donington’s biggest event of the year.
The big boys of the Superbike World Championship will hit the track at 10.15 for their first hour of practice, and will take to the track again at 13.30 for another hour of action. All other series will also be on track to practice throughout the day, including World Supersport and World Superstock, as well as National Superstock, the European Junior Cup and Ducati TriOptions Cup.
The weekend is set to be an event to remember for the fans, as this year the entry ticket includes open access to the paddock for the first time, allowing everyone the chance to rub shoulders with the stars of the sport. As well as the thrilling on-track spectacle provided by World Superbikes, there’s also the heaving off track schedule packed with a wide variety of entertainment and fun zones, as well as the popular Paddock Show, which will welcome dozens of star riders and celebrities on stage throughout the three days.
It’s been a day of feverish final preparation activity at Donington, with teams and riders all now set up at the circuit so that the action can start from 9.15 tomorrow. Thursday also saw the grand opening of the brand new Infield Campsite, which was opened by former World Champion Sylvain Guintoli and Donington Managing Director Christopher Tate.
Spectators are now able to camp on the circuit’s infield for the first time ever this weekend, allowing fans much closer access to many of the popular viewing areas. The campsite boasts all the facilities required for fans to make a weekend of the action, including live evening entertainment in the form of bands and rider appearances, catering outlets and various fun activities for the family, including a football pitch and a space hopper grand prix!
Donington Managing Director Christopher Tate commented: “After months of preparation and hard work by the team at Donington Park, the main event of the year is finally here and we’ve already welcomed hundreds of fans to the venue who are pitching up on our new campsite. It’s going to be a fabulous weekend of action from one of the world’s most prestigious motorsport series, and we’re really looking forward to welcoming thousands spectators from around the world. World Superbikes is a real British sporting success story at the moment with home grown riders dominating in recent years, so we fully expect to see British winners throughout the weekend.”
