The 6th and final round of this year’s ACU/FSRA British F2 Sidecar Championship takes place at Croft, Near Darlington this coming weekend - 26/27 September, as part of the 75th Anniversary Battle of Britain meeting. 25 teams have scored championship points, around 35 have taken part in at least one round but the weekend is all about deciding this year’s Championship winning team and one of two teams will be crowned champions. Leaders since their double win in round 4 at Anglesey have been number 44, Alan Founds and Tom Peters, three wins, four second places, one third and one fourth have given them a total of 174 points. Just 7.5 points behind are John Holden and Ashley Hawes, number 0, four wins, one second, three thirds and a fifth totalling 166.5 points.
Alan and Tom were runners-up last year, by just two points following the most exciting race for many a year in the Cadwell Park finale. John has three championships to his credit, 2009, 2010 and 2013, while Ashley had a ‘half’ share in 2011 when helping Simon Neary to the title, when incidentally they clinched the title at Croft. The other title to be decided is the F2 Cup for the ‘newer’ teams in the entry. Sean Reeves and Mark Wilkes need just one point to clinch it from current second-placed Steve and Mattie Ramsden. They won the last championship race at Cadwell so don’t be surprised to see them at the ‘sharp’ end of the order. Also watch out for Lee Crawford and Patrick Farrance No.17, Ian and Carl Bell No 4,and in fact pretty much all of the entry! It has been a superb championship and close racing has been a feature throughout the season. Photo by Mark Walters.
