After a lengthy break in the series, the ACU Edmondson Racing British Enduro Championship returned to competition for rounds five and six at the ever popular Knighton event, Mid Wales.
Taking victory on both days and back to full health, Jamie McCanney excelled on the grassy special tests and extended his championship points lead.
On day one Jamie McCanney and Steve Holcombe brought their current World Championship battle back home as the pair were swapping places all day. A costly mistake on the final test for Holcombe meant Jamie McCanney was able to knock 12 seconds off to take victory. David Knight rounded out the top three but was kept honest by rising star Joe Wootton who finished just 0.2 seconds adrift of the big man. Unable to post any top three special test times, Tom Sagar brought home fifth place ahead of Jamie Lewis.
“I’m really happy to have won here in Knighton” said a pleased Jamie McCanney, “I knew this weekend was going to be incredibly tough to take the win with the nature of the special tests. It’s mainly settled on the grass here with no really technical sections to make up or lose time. I only made one mistake all day and that was on the first test so I’m glad I was able to keep things consistent.”
The dog fight returned with a three way battle on Sunday as Jamie McCanney, David Knight and Steve Holcombe each posted the fastest test times throughout the day. Jamie McCanney came out on top with a second victory for the weekend and David Knight upped day one’s result to second place - just 0.6 seconds separated Jamie and David after 8 special tests. Steve Holcombe was unable to keep things consistent and finished in a strong third place ahead of Joe Wootton and Tom Sagar.
In the fierce Expert Class, Jake Subachus was on an absolute flyer winning six out of seven special tests but a costly mistake on test seven made way for Bradley King's return to the top step on day one. Subachus dropped to seventh and King finished 12 seconds ahead of Aled Price and David Herring who had battled all day. Luke Flack and Adam James completed the top five.
On day two, the Expert class had a shake up. Manxman Jake Subachus was the man to beat aboard his MPS Racing Sherco who took victory over day one winner Bradley King. David Herring regained his third place finish
In the Clubman class Dan Mundell was in a class of his own and won both days rather convincingly. On day one, Mundell would have won the Expert class by twenty seconds! Jordan Ridgeway had two second place finishes whilst Hayden Miller was third on day one and Jack Cadwallader was third on day two.
In the Womens Class, Rhian George made an outing on a Husqvarna TE 250 instead of her usual TE125. The womens class results remained unchanged for day one and two as Rhian George took top honours, Glesni Jones finished second and Ellie Cooke brought home third place.
