This year marks the 10th anniversary of Richard’s sudden and tragic accident at Hawkstone Park.
Many of you will have never met Richard, you may have spotted or even sat on the memorial bench overlooking the track at Wakes Colne. Wakes Colne was a firm favourite of Richard’s. It is testament to Richard that Halstead & DMCC have and continue to hold this annual meeting, and that you as competitors choose to take part in it, as Richard’s parents we are humbled by the support we have had, and continue to receive from fellow racers, friends and colleagues,
Richard’s love for the sport began at the tender age of 2 years, at 8yrs old he took part in his first official race at ‘Peroys’, for those of you not familiar with the track, it was very basic, the facilities left a lot to be desired but it was traditional and fast! Richard had the racing bug! and quickly this took over not only our weekends, any spare cash we had and more, but most importantly gave Richard something to focus on. He progressed through the ranks and was lucky enough to compete both in the UK, Europe and America. Richard always believed that enjoying the sport was paramount, we all like to win but winning isn't everything.
With this in mind, we are awarding prizes to competitors across the field, not just focussing on the winners- There will be a special perpetual trophy, a bronze casting of Richard’s helmet awarded to the overall winner in addition to the usual prize monies and trophies.
The plan for the trophy race is to have a Le Mans type start to add some more excitement to proceedings. There are still entries available on the ACU website for both the All-comers and also the Evo class.
