Reigning BEC Champion Tom Sagar secured victory after some incredibly close competition at round 3 of the ACU Edmondson Racing British Enduro Championship. Riding consistently all day, Sagar was able to capitalise where others made mistakes. It was anyone’s guess who would be victorious at the end of the day as Sagar, Knight, Danny McCanney, Jamie McCanney and Steve Holcombe were all laying down some seriously quick test times.
Still suffering from his virus and surprised at a runner up result, David Knight returned the the BEC podium just 10 seconds adrift of Sagar and was followed home by Daniel McCanney a further 5 seconds back. Round 1 & 2 victor Jamie McCanney was a little under the weather leading in to the weekend and didn’t feel as though he could push as hard as he wanted. Jamie finished the day in fourth. Improving on his ride in Lossiemouth, up and coming star Joe Wootton put in a great performance to round out the top 5.
In the Expert class, everyones favourite, Joe Chambers took the overall on day one after a long day’s battle with the Sherco pairing of Jake Subachus and Luke Flack. Each of the top three had produced their best BEC results to date.
After being treated to dusty special tests on day one, the riders were challenged with a torrential downpour come Sunday morning for round 4.
Determined to make up for a costly crash on day one, Steve Holcombe was the pace setter for the first couple of tests on the shortened day two. After taking 13 seconds out of the nearest competitor, Daniel McCanney, Steve rode sensibly to secure the win at round 4. David Knight and Daniel McCanney swapped places from day one and Daniel finished the day in second, David in third.
Losing time early on in the day, Tom Sagar was unable to put a podium on the board and finished fourth. Unable to push as hard as he’d liked, Jamie McCanney finished the day in _fth.
Proving his ride in the dust on Saturday wasn’t a fluke, Joe Chambers brought home a second victory in the heavy rain on day two. Hungry to win, Luke Flack matched Joe Chambers’ time to the second on tests 1 & 3 and beat him on test two. A crash on the _nal test meant Luke had to settle for second place ahead of fellow Sherco rider David Kip Herring.
The clubman class saw Dan Mundell lead the way to a comfortable one minute thirty win on day one infront Jordan Ridgway and Reece Moorewood. Day two saw Nathan Ball win over Alex Walton and Dan Mundell slipped down to third.
Jamie Jenkins was the man to beat in the over 40’s on both days as Richard Hay and Russel Millwall were second and third at round three. On Sunday’s wet conditions Anthony Tempest was second and Richard Hay third.
Rhian George is continuing to dominate the women’s class this year with a double victory at rounds three and four making it a perfect 4/4 so far. Ellie Cooke was second on each day. The third place position was taken by Kate Smith on Saturday and Glesni Jones on Sunday.
Gavin Johnson tasted top step victory in the over 50’s each day in the Duncombe Park woodland. Saturday saw Mark Houson and Paul Armstrong finish second and third respectively. On Sunday there was a change in proceedings behind the leading lad as Paul Armstrong finished second and Philip George in third.
Jimmy Davy was Saturdays Sportsman winner and Simon Walker and Lee Abbot rounded out the top three. Suited to the wet conditions, Simon Walker blitzed the competition on Sunday and was the only rider in class to stay penalty free. Paul McKie finished second and Nigel Griffen third.
