The 2015 road racing season opened it's doors last weekend at Scarborough's famous Oliver's Mount circuit and what an event it proved to be.
The event was held over 2 days on Saturday and Sunday which obviously proved to be a real hit with the fans as the car parks were full for both days! With the track lined with spectators, the trade village bustling and the sun shining on Saturday, it was time to get the events started.
As a TT warm up event, this would be the venue where we would see teams like MarTrain Racing, RC Express Racing, Tyco BMW and East Coast Construction Racing getting there bikes racing ahead of this seasons road races.
Road racing superstars like Ivan Lintin, Lee Johnston, Dean Harrison, Ryan Farquhar, Ian Lougher, James Cowton and Daily Matheson all in attendance, the races were all going to be closely fought.
There was another rider there too! Guy Martin and the brand new Tyco BMW made it's full debut at Scarborough to the crowds delight. But how would it fare around the twisty Scarborough circuit.
Saturday:
Unfortunately during practice there was a nasty crash involving Gareth Keys. The medics provided fantastic assistance at the circuit and Gareth is now recovering from his injuries. Of course we wish Gareth well and hope to see him racing at Oliver's Mount again soon.
With practice and quaifying completed it was down to action.
In the juniors, Ivan Lintin took the win from Lee johnston and Dean Harrison.
Superlightweights it was again Ivan Lintin fighting for the win but local lad James Cowton who took the win ahead of Lintin and Farqhar in third.
F2 sidecars and these guys are always wowing the fans around the Mount! Dave Molyneux was on fire and took the win from Conrad Harrison and Steve Ramsden.
In the Classics Ryan Farqhar continued his great day winning from jamie Coward and David Bell.
Then in seniors Dean Harrison gave the new Mar Train R1 it's first win ahead of Guy Martin and Lee Johnston.
The main event was the Spring Cup. This year run over 2 legs the overall winner would be decided on total points over the 2 days. Guy Martin was on pole position and looked focused on giving the BMW a great start to the year. At Mere hairpin Ryan Farquhar claimed the holeshot and was looking good. Guy Martin made a clean pass later on the first lap. Then throughout the race Guy stretched his lead until the finish line where he claimed the first leg of the Spring Cup by 3.4 seconds ahead of Farquhar, Ivan Lintin, James Cowton, Steve Mercer and Mark Goodings.
Sunday:
As predicted on Sunday, the storms came, although in all honesty the rain didn't ever materialise into the apocalyptic conditions that were forecast.
After practice it was the lightweights up first. Nick Anderson dominated the race ahead of Paul Owen and Peter Boast.
The sidecars and it was Conrad Harrison taking the spoils from Tony Thirkell and Lee Crawford.
Next it was time for the classics and Ryan Farquhar continued his successful weekend ahead of Peter Boast and David Bell.
In the Juniors Daley Mathison was on a different planet, riding like it was dry. A deserved win ahead of Ivan Lintin and an impressive ride too from Dan Hegarty.
Superlightweights were won by Ivan Lintin from James Cowton and Dan Hegarty.
The Seniors in tough conditions saw Dean Harrison again flying taking the win from Daley Mathison and Ivan Lintin.
So finally it was the Spring Cup 2nd leg. Again Guy Martin started from pole, but the wet track was going to make this race tougher than Saturday's. As the green light came on Daley mathison got the jump and led the race at the end of lap one. It was a classic ride from Daley and a fantastic win for him ahead of Tom Weeden and Ivan Lintin with Guy Martin 4th and Dan Hegarty.
With Saturdays and Sundays results combined the top three looked like this:
1st - Guy Martin - 23 points
2nd Ivan Lintin - 20 points
3rd - Tom Weeden - 16 points
So that was it for the 2015 Spring Cup. Without a doubt the 2 day format was a hit with the fans and riders so we will be back again next year over 2 days again. A huge thank you to our circuit partners: Suzuki, Hel Performance, SorryMate.com, Silkolene, Shoei, Spada and Bridgestone.
Our next race at Oliver's Mount is the Barry Sheene Festival powered by Suzuki which takes place on June 20th and 21st.
