Oulton Park host’s the fifth round of the 2015 season and after Brands Hatch and Cadwell Park, we are starting to get a picture as to who is on form this year. Phil Bevan is…as ever the man in the Superbike classes but he will face some tough opposition here as Dan Stewart, Chris Barnes, Jamie Harrison, Roo Cotton and Jonathan Howarth are all on the grid.
This meeting is more that just Superbikes though, with bikes and races for all tastes from the 125GP’s through the Sound of Thunder to the Sidecars
The Circuit.....
Oulton Park is one of the most testing…and some say more dangerous tracks in the UK. It is not a track that is easily learned and here there really is no substitute for experience. The long 2.7mile circuit repays precise riding and a well-set up bike over the lap with its complex turns and cambers in the corners. There is plenty of overtaking opportunities, so good wheel to wheel racing is always on the cards.
The Fastest.....
Josh Day, now running up front in BSB Evo Supersport on the UK stage set the fastest NG Road Racing lap here at Oulton back in July 2013 on his then mount, a ZX10R Kawasaki. He hustled the big ZX10 round in 1min 40.34 seconds....that’s an average speed of just over 96.5mph.
The Phoenix Open.....
Phoenix Motorcycles from Trowbridge again support the Open. All the fastest riders of the meeting will be battling it out for one of the biggest season long prize funds in the country. Phil Bevan the seven time Open champion is already atop the table this year, which is already ominous for the opposition!!. Here though he will take on recent Wirral 100 winner Dan Stewart as well as Chris Barnes, Roo Cotton, Darren Rumley and Jamie Harrison.
The 250 GP ACU National Championship.....
These former 250cc world championship spec machines are pure race bikes and are designed with one thing in mind, to race, and this is the best place to see them. Former champ Ant Hodson heads the grid after the first two meetings of the year over Phil Atkinson and Rich Grinling, with former champ Daniel Jackson and Dave Hampton, on the grid and looking for more podiums.
Ones to watch.....
The Open and GP classes may be viewed by some as the premier classes, but some of the best and closest racing comes in the NG classes, where the club riders take on circuit local specialists and a smattering of BSB National riders. The 600 Open class will one of the toughest to win with defending champ Max Symonds fighting to hold off Scot Adam on his MV Augusta, Sean Montgomery, Jonathan Howarth, James Harrison and Chris Mort. The Thunder class will see Adam again with Peter Carr and David Irons. Meanwhile in the Mini Twins we will have battle joined between Aaron Silvester, Paul Wardell and the experienced Tom Blackwell. Dave Hampton returns from competing in France to pit his 500 Tigcraft single against TZ’s and the like in the 500 Open. Tim Bradley is the man to beat in the F400 as defending champ Daniel Tilley is mired in a run of bad luck….can he regain his 2014 form here?.
2014 champs Jim Hamilton and Mick Fairhurst, plus Mike Cookson and Alun Thomas head up a sidecar field. Whilst the frantic Streetstock production bikes will again see Martin Lowe, Paul Williams, Simon O’Donnell, Justin Collins and Thomas Williams fight for the flag.
There is so much more besides…..best you be there to see it !!!…..tell them I sent you !!
