The 2014 RHL Weston Beach Race kicked into life with the first of two days of racing here in North Somerset. Thousands of fans flocked to the seaside town to witness one of the best performances ever in the history of the event. Carl Bunce was crowned quad champion, Carl produced an amazing display of four wheel speed and lapped the entire field including multi-time winner Paul Winrow and French ace Jeremie SOYEZ. Carl Bunce: “Yeah brilliant result today, I’ve been runner-up to Paul Winrow in two championships this year, I couldn’t let him beat me here. I’m not sure if he had problems or anything, I just got my head down and pushed on hard for the first hour and 50 minutes, I did a pit stop and took it steady really, I had a few moments but all good.”
In the
Youth 65cc race the youngest competitors at this year’s Weston Beach Race did themselves proud coping extremely well in the tough conditions of deep and wet sand.
Eventual winner was Charlie PALMER who completed 15 laps followed by Vinnie-Ray GUTHRIE in second and Mitchell RAMACKERS in third.
Tom Neal rocketed to 27 impressive laps and the win in the
125/250 Rookie class, Tom was chased hard throughout the race by Oliver Benton who was racing on a 125 two stroke and Jake Edey from Peterborough on a KTM 250.
Tom Neal: “I’m feeling real good at the moment, my first win here after nine attempts so its been a longtime coming, last year I blew up halfway through so this year was good to complete the full race. I thought the race went quite fast, hopefully next year I’ll race the main race our race was awesome though.”
Gareth Hockey of RHL Activities: “Exceptional, amazing and fantastic are just 3 words I could use for todays racing. Every rider in every class did themselves proud, the crowd was phenomenal for a Saturday and the dry weather helped for sure. Tomorrow will be just as spectacular as today and the forecast is pretty impressive. Please come early as once again the circuit will be heaving.”
