The Vale of Towy Motorcycle Club ran the fourth round of the 2012 Luscombe Suzuki Leeds British Youth Solo C&D Trials Championship on Sunday June 24th, with local support coming from civil engineering concern, Jones Brothers of Henllan, Llanelli, the young riders certainly tested by three laps of the compact but demanding course at Glanawmor Isaf Farm, just outside Pencader, near Carmarthen in West Wales. Heavy overnight rain made the low lying parts of the course muddier than expected, but organisers can do little about the vagaries of the weather, and conditions were the same for all – some slight rain after the start further dampened both riders and observers, but the sun soon broke though, bringing a welcome respite for all.

With three non-starters, thirty riders took in section one, tackling a short tricky and slippery traverse of a tree lined slope, with D Class small wheel trio Elliot Woodall – Scarborough Autosmart GasGas -, Jamie Williams – Mansfield GasGas50 -, and James Marsland of Surrey Schoolboy Trials Club also on a GasGas50 on equal terms, and showing early form, borne out by their one – two – three finish respectively after all twelve sections. Williams moved into the class lead of the Luscombe Suzuki Leeds series by a single point from Marsland, former joint second place rider Ben Dignan non-starting.

The D Class Medium Wheel riders found this – and the following section further up the valley – a difficult one, all collecting fives, but by the third section, the benchmarks were starting to be set. Another slippery climb through a tree lined bank, with tight turns into the descents saw Edward Earle on his Appleyards Beta80 best the rest, the Yeadon& Guisley youngster showing the skill that finally brought him the class win and Championship lead, with eight year old Alice Minta moving up to a championship second, her determined Shropshire style on the Beta80 seeing the Shropshire lass just ten marks adrift of class second rider Charley Moseley on his BTT Beta80.

The C Class medium route riders had a keen battle, Moretonhampstead & DMC Beta 80 lad Billy Green having a very impressive ride from the outset, well clear of his rivals, and his class victory – with almost half the penalties of second placed Oliver Smith from Eastbourne DMC on his Oset20 – bringing him a healthy championship lead Oliver having a close battle with Earl Shilton Trial Club rider Daniel Slack on another Beta80, the pair just nine marks apart after three laps and thirty six tough sections, Daniel holding onto his second placing in the British Youth Class Championship, though Smith has closed the gap after this fourth round of six.

The Class C standard wheel riders included Jack Peace from Kirkbymoorside arriving at the Vale of Towy MCC trial with three maximum scores and he added another in Wales, his fifty five marks lost on the TrickBits BetaUK.com 80 seeing him well clear of a hard trying class runner-up, Toby Martyn a former Champion at this level, from Truro, on his RCM Beta 80 besting Jack occasionally, but he could not overcome the leaders consistency. Bradford’s Keiran Child took his Horsforth MC Beta80 to the final class award, the three riders also finishing thus in the Luscombe Suzuki Leeds Championship stakes, maintaining the status quo. Clerk of the Course Glyn Jones (a founder member of the Vale of Towy MCC) and Dave Bushin had set out the traditional course of surprises at Glanawmor Isaf Farm, providing a challenging fourth round of the National series.
