Billy Green Takes Double Victory

No doubt who was the master of the Devon Youth Championship Trials on Saturday and Sunday. Twelve year old Newton Abbot College pupil Billy Green who rode his 125cc Beta machine to a clear cut double victory over Leicester challenger Daniel Slack and Huddersfield’s Charlie Mosley.

At Bovey Tracey on Saturday one mistake in section eleven on lap one hampered the consistent Leicester boy in his victory quest. Daniel did fire back at Lustleigh on Sunday where a single penalty made all the difference. For Green it is three in a row and maximum championship points.

In the Class C medium wheels category Horsham’s Jack Dance is the cream of the crop with three victories finishing both trials well clear of Oxford’s Dale Freeman and Jacob Smith and Elliott Woodall. Fife contender Jamie Galloway contained all his Sassenach rivals, three of them, in the Class D medium wheels category. Forty penalties in front Henry Stephenson on Saturday but only a dozen in front of the Liversedge Beta convert on Sunday. Henry is still coming to terms with a fossil powered engine rather than large batteries. Last year Manchester’s Harry Turner rode some excellent trials and was always on the rostrum but foiled by Harry Hemingway, Dominic Horne or Henry Stephenson. Not on Saturday. He turned the tables on Hemingway and rode the entire course without any penalties. On Sunday ‘Little Hemmo’ was back in the driving seat. Just three championship points split the two rivals.

The two organising clubs surpassed all expectations. Both trials were excellent with sections that were user friendly and above all safe. Clerks of Course Roger Barnes and Nick Hunt even arranged wall to wall sunshine in Devon.

The next Class C and D Champion event is on May 22 and organised by the Vale of Towy Motor Cycle Club.
