Liverpool Echo Arena and London O2 for Supercross

The British Supercross Championship bursts back into action with a vengeance with three nights of racing over two consecutive weekends. It all gets going at Liverpool's Echo Arena on Friday January 23rd and Saturday the 24th, followed by the finale at The O2 Arena, London on Saturday January 31st.

The series has attracted the best of British Supercross riders and an impressive line-up of international riders from the US, Canada, South Africa, France, Spain, Ireland and Scandinavia. The US will be represented by current British SX1 champ and former US outdoor champ Mike Brown and latest additions to the line-up US rider Zach Osborne and Teddy Maier who will be making their British Supercross debuts.

Osborne impressed GP fans by winning his first GP in Ireland in 2008 and will be competing on a Dixon UTAG Yamaha. Kawasaki rider Teddy Maier from Iowa has made a name for himself in US Arena-cross and more recently the Canadian Arena-cross and Motocross Championships.

Speaking of Canadians Dixon UTAG Yamaha will also be represented at both Liverpool and London by three Canadian riders, also British Supercross regulars with SX2 British Supercross Champ Colton Facciotti, who took the win in the SX1 class at Sheffield back in October. Joining him will be former Canadian Arena-cross champion and last year's winner at The O2 Arena, Kyle Beaton plus five times Canadian MX1 champion Jean Sebastian Roy better known as JSR. Other Canadians making the trip over the Atlantic will be last year's Liverpool SX2 winner Kris Foster, who will be joined by fellow Canadian Kawasaki team-mate Brock Hoyer on DK Offroad Kawasaki's. South African's Neville Bradshaw and Lloyd Vercuiel, Spain's Xavier Hernandez and Norwegian Rasmus Jorgensen will also add to the international line-up

The best of the UK will also be raring to go. Ireland's PAR Honda rider Gordon Crockard, Relentless Suzuki's Martin Barr and former British Outdoor and Supercross Champ MVRD Suzuki rider Carl Nunn are amongst the favourites for the new British Open Supercross title as is head to head star Ashley Greedy. Greedy, the hugely popular head to head dash for cash star will keep the fans on the edge of their seats adding to the entertainment.

New for Liverpool and London will be the first ever appearance of Quads in British Supercross, with a record numbers of rider entrees and very strong pre-ticket sales at both venues it all promises to be a great conclusion to the official ACU FIM backed British Supercross Championship. New Look for 2009 British Superbike Championship Calendar

Click here to see more of this news story

There is a new, exciting look about the 2009 British Superbike calendar announced today by the series promoters and organisers MotorSport Vision, which takes place across twelve events at ten leading UK circuits.

The action, which sees the GSE team defending their crown with riders Leon Camier and James Ellison onboard factory-backed Yamahas, begins on the Brands Hatch Indy circuit over the Easter weekend. This opening meeting has been extended to four days, allowing for additional testing and extensive support race action ahead of the Holiday Monday feature races.

The big break with tradition is that the Kent circuit will not host the final round of the series. Instead, that will be held at Oulton Park over the weekend of 9/10/11 October. The Cheshire circuit is hugely popular with fans and riders and will provide a spectacular setting for the 2009 finale.

Brands Hatch will host its second round on the full Grand Prix circuit over the weekend of 7-8-9 August, with the circuit aiming to continue the festival type atmosphere that has been enjoyed there in mid-summer with the World championship. This round will feature major on and off-track content and entertainment of which further details will be announced by the circuit operators very soon.

Around these meetings, there is early season Holiday Monday action at Oulton Park on 4 May, and then Donington Park on 25 May, with little respite before the teams take on the challenges of the high-speed Thruxton circuit in Hampshire on 31 May.

Knockhill again hosts the Scottish round of the championship on 5 July, with Mallory Park holding the seventh round two weeks later. Cadwell Park will again stage its 'party in the park' on August Bank Holiday weekend, ahead of the late season action at Croft on 13 September, and the penultimate round at Silverstone on 27 September.

Series Director Stuart Higgs said: "We believe that we have the most competitive domestic Superbike championship in the world with the calibre of riders and machines already entered and the new look calendar adds spice, with variation and a range of circuits that fully test the capabilities of all competitors."

MOTOSIX - The Six Nations

The ACU Road Race Committee announces an exciting new competition in motorcycle road racing for 2009.

‘MotoSix, The 6 Nations’, is a new team road race event that will feature teams from the four ‘Home Nations’ of England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland, along with teams from the Isle of Man and the Irish Republic, racing against one another in a titanic battle for the title, ‘MotoSix Nations Champions’.

This unique event will be held on the full GP circuit at Donington Park over the weekend of 28th and 29th March 2009 and will have classes for solo motorcycles and sidecars.  Completing the weekends racing programme will be a round of the 2009 ACU Suzuki GSX-R Trophy and, the new for 2009 ACU Ladies Road Race Championship, details of which will be published shortly.

ACU Road Race Committee Chairman Jim Parker is delighted to be able to give the event full ACU backing,
“This type of innovative event is just what road racing needs.  We can all remember the interest that the iconic Transatlantic Trophy races generated amongst spectators.  I think that MotoSix is capable of energising that sort of interest again and will be very popular amongst riders from around the UK,” explained Parker.

Robert Fearnall Operations Director at Donington Park is pleased to see the event take place at the ‘Home of British Motorsport’, Donington Park.
“The full Grand Prix Circuit at Donington Park, in the middle of the UK, is the perfect venue for this new and exciting challenge in motorcycle road racing.  I am sure that the combination of this venue and the added competitiveness driven through national pride will ensure that this event is un-missable!” Fearnall said.

Full details of the event will be published over coming weeks and posted on the ACU web site (www.acu.org.uk) as well as in all good motorcycle press.

In the mean time, any enquires regarding MotoSix, the ACU Suzuki GSX-R Trophy and the ACU Ladies Championship should be directed to the ACU Road Race Department on 01788 566406 or rr@acu.org.uk

Free Competitor Training Course For Young Road Racers!

The ACU Road Race Committee has decided to help parents of budding young road racers by scrapping the fee for the compulsory Competitor Training Course (CTC).

From 1st January 2009, any new Road Race Licence applicant aged under 17 years of age on the date they attend the course, will get their course free of charge.

The Committee decided to scrap the normal £50 fee to encourage more young riders to try their hand at motorcycle road racing.

“Everyone knows road racing is expensive and we are also aware that the current economic conditions will not help those wishing to race in 2009,” explained Road Race Committee Chairman Jim Parker.

“We hope that this gesture will encourage parents of younger riders, who are thinking of starting out in the sport, to take the plunge and have a go,” he continued.

For more details of the ACU CTC Course or to book a place, please contact Kirsty Spires on 01788 566400 or licence@acu.org.uk

Talent flocks to the 2009 British Youth Motocross Championships

OVER 100 entrants are already confirmed for the 2009 British Youth Motocross Championships with four months still to go before the gate drops on the first race meeting.

The classes include something for everybody: the 65cc Juniors, 85cc Small Wheel, 85cc Big Wheel, Youth Open and the new Adult Clubman races – designed to appeal to big brothers, sisters and parents who are at the event supporting the young champion of the future.

The ACU is ramping up its support to the organising clubs in 2009. The clubs will concentrate on actually running and organising race day while the ACU will be bringing the glitz, glamour and its professional approach to assist every one of the seven race meetings, to make them bigger, better and more enjoyable than ever before.

The ACU’s Roy Humphrey said: “The 2009 British Youth Motocross Championships will be the best ever, with real attractions for riders and visitors alike. This is the breeding ground for the stars of the future – the X-Factor of motocross – and we want as many youth riders to take part as possible.

“We have over 100 entrants already and spaces in the 85cc classes are nearly fully booked – with only 40 starters if you enter you will qualify for the main event. There are still plenty of places left in the 65cc class but it is filling fast and I’d urge you to register as soon as possible to avoid disappointment.”

New British Clubman/Junior Motocross Championship

ACU opens British Youth MX Championship to Junior Adult Riders.

Having released seven quality venues for the 2009 British Youth Championship season, the ACU Motocross Committee have introduced a new class for 09 which will consist of 40 riders in this inaugural year to register and compete in a British Championship Adult Clubman class at each event.

Sonia Goggin, Motocross Competition Secretary commented “ The class will be primarily for adult junior riders who would like to compete in a national series but this will also allow former youth championship competitors a chance to continue their relationship with the series especially if a younger brother or sister is competing in a youth class. The winner of the new series will be crowned the ‘British Clubman Motocross Champion 2009’

With a strategy of ensuring the venues are capable of running in inclement British weather if necessary, the ACU’s flagship Youth series takes in rounds from Suffolk to Devon, Dorset, Cumbria and Scotland before finishing at the most high profile venue in the country, Foxhill in Wiltshire.

All of the events will take place over the traditional two day format and will include timed training for start positions and include four full length races of 16 minutes plus one lap which will give a full race programme.

March 28th and 29th    - Mildenhall
