The ACU Luscombe Suzuki Leeds sponsored British Sidecar Trials Championship heads for the Isle of Man where traditionally the Peveril Motor Cycle and Light Car Club kick start the ten round championship series. The Club again stages a double championship weekend with the Andy Smith Trophy Trial on Saturday and the following day when the David Craine Trophy Trial takes centre stage. Denise Kissack has accepted twenty nine three wheelers with all the top guys and girls ready for some serious trialling.
The Inter attack will be led by Daryl Dale and his girlfriend Hannah Etherington but Steve Radford and former Luscombe passenger Les Ashby will be somewhere near. The clubman class is a bridge too far predicting a winner, Mark Kemp and Ian Allaway, Karl Jarvis and Bob Chapman, Robbie Head and Aron Jacobs plus the real dark horses Bristol’s Matt Sparkes and Jamie Howe on their Ossa. Matt’s father Phil is making the trip to the trial to keep and eye on his son, and offer advice. Phil announced this week that after a brilliant thirty eight years of sidecar trialling he is hanging up his boots, at 63, to concentrate on running the British Championship BSSATuck/Cross Trophy Trial in May where he will act as Clerk of Course.
The Saturday route, from Dhoon Quarry, takes in five sub groups while Sunday’s seven section group will probably provide the sting in the tail. The action kicks in at Ballaspit. The Peveril club has also mapped out a solo route which will more or less track the sidecar sections.
